Heger Tor

Heger Gate

Heger gate – Square of the town-friendships-agreement. The Heger gate is reminiscent of a fortification, but was never part of one. The defense system consisted of a tower, gate, bastion and kennel and was largely demolished in 1815. In 1817, two years after the Battle of Waterloo, Gerhard Friedrich von Gülich donated 1,000 thalers to build the gate to honor the fighters of Waterloo from Osnabrück.

Hermannsturm auf dem Dörenberg

Hermannsturm on the Dörenberg

Situated on the 330-metre-high Dörenberg, the Hermannsturm has been a popular excursion destination for hikers from Georgsmarienhütte and the entire region for many years. At a lofty height above the treetops, it offers a breathtaking view over the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest, the urban area of Georgsmarienhütte, the Osnabrück region and the Münsterland bay. By the way: the Hermannsturm also has a twin - the Varusturm. The Varusturm on the Lammersbrink in the Alt-Georgsmarienhütte district is identical in construction and stretches up into the sky. Both towers are connected by a well-developed hiking trail.
